A message from our headteacher, Mrs Shields…

“Reaching for the stars hand in hand”

Formerly known as Delce Infant School, we are now Crest Infant & Nursery School.

The only thing that has changed about us is our name. We have the same leadership team, the same staff, the same governing body, the same vision and ethos and the same high aspirations for our children as before. It was these aspects which Ofsted recognised in 2016.

I am proud as the headteacher of Crest Infant & Nursery School, to welcome you and your family to our website – your window into our vibrant learning community. Our website provides information for parents and friends of the school, a celebration of our work and a glimpse for prospective pupils, parents and visitors of what our school is all about.

Crest Infant & Nursery School is a wonderful place to be; our hardworking staff are committed to providing the best possible care and education they can. We are very proud of our school and the way it is continually developing as a creative, child-centred environment.

We are really fortunate to have extensive grounds, which we use to enhance the curriculum. This includes ‘Wild at Heart’ time which takes place in our large meadow area in which the children undertake activities along the lines of the ‘Forest School’ approach. The children are encouraged to problem solve, work as a team and learn more about the natural habitat around the school. You can see some photographs of the children in the meadow in the gallery section.

We also use the local area which is steeped in history. Children visit Rochester Cathedral, Rochester Castle, the synagogue and the Guild Hall Museum as part of our curriculum. We also make the best possible use of Chatham Dockyard to support our learning.

We work closely with the Delce Family Hub which is situated on our side and we enjoy close links with local pre-schools and junior schools to ensure a smooth transition at key points.

In our school we pride ourselves on providing a good level of education alongside a personal and individual environment where children have the ability to develop and thrive.

Children leave our school at the end of Year 2 with results in line with or above the national average and as importantly with the confidence and skills to face the challenge of moving forward to the next stage in their learning journey. We aim for our children to be equipped with self-belief and to realise that the more resilient they are, the more successful they can become. We encourage them to push their personal limits and most importantly learn from their mistakes. This is known as ‘character education’ and you can learn more about this in our section ‘Developing Character and a Growth Mindset’.

We value the partnership between home and school and encourage all parents to take an active part in the education of their children. The partnership between staff, parents, governors and other stakeholders is an essential one. Together we can set challenges and our partners can help us ask ‘how can we do it even better?’

If you would like to know more about our school, please contact us and arrange a visit. We will be happy to meet you.

With warm wishes,

Janey
